The 2023 Zmajeve dečije igre Award Presented to Author Olivera Olja Jelkić

This year, the Dragons’ Children’s Games Award for outstanding creative contribution to contemporary children’s literature was granted to the writer Olivera Jelkić.

In the justification, it is emphasized that Olivera Jelkić is the author of a substantial number of novels, stories, and dramatic texts for children and young adults. Her books have been published in several foreign languages. She actively promotes reading and has received numerous literary awards and recognition for her charitable work.

In 2023, she was nominated for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award, a significant international acknowledgment in the field of children’s and young adult literature.

At the Dekalend Cultural Center, whose existence and work she initiated and continues to support, a wide range of activities are held in the fields of acting, music, literature, and painting.

She supports artistic initiatives aimed at the development of children, especially those without parental care and from marginalized groups. Her poems, set to music arrangements, have become part of the repertoire of children’s choirs.

Through the Dragons’ Children’s Games, she has developed a decades-long collaboration in a series of projects: June programs, the Monodrama Festival for Children, publishing activities, including a book of her monodramatic texts titled “Stop the Planet,” bilingual programs for children and young people in Vojvodina…
